URBAN ABORIGINAL HEALTHY LIFESTYLES PROGRAM

Urban Aboriginal Healthy Lifestyles Program

The Urban Aboriginal Healthy Lifestyles Programme (UAHLP) exists to help community members increase their physical activity levels and cardio-vascular health; to become smoke free; to increase their knowledge of nutrition and to practice healthy eating practices with weight management whilst enhancing the leadership ability of our youth.

The Urban Aboriginal Healthy Lifestyles Programme offers benefits for the community as a whole; whilst focusing on four key target groups for specialized programming:

·         Children

·         Youth

·         Women

·         Seniors and Disabled Adults

The Urban Aboriginal Healthy Lifestyles Programme (UAHLP) offers a wide range of activities that all the community can participate in, such as sport, recreation and physical fitness programming.

Wachay - Welcome

Welcome to the Urban Aboriginal Healthy Lifestyle Program!
I am honored to accept the recently added position as the new UAHLP Worker with the Timmins Native Friendship Centre as of March, 2010.  As indicated above, I will be working within the community of Timmins and surrounding area to build healthier lifestyles within the targeted groups.  For the month of March, I am focused on advertising to spread the word within the community and get feedback from the community members.  I will be advertising with our local schools and businesses and you can search the name "Urban Aboriginal Healthy Lifestyle Program" to find updates through Facebook.  As for feedback, I will be distributing questionnaires to evaluate program expectations before the 19th of March.  I would like to begin registrations as of April 2010, so your feedback is extremely important to kick start the program.  I will be away for training as of March 22nd and returning to the office March 25th.  In the meantime, if you have any questions feel free to contact me at the number below or come visit me at the Centre.

I look forward to meeting new faces and building healthy changes.

Thank you
Meegwetch
