Adult Native Literacy and Basic Skills Progam (LBS)

Overview of the Program

The Adult Native Literacy and Basic Skills Program (LBS) program is a skills development program in communication (reading, writing and speaking) as well as numeracy at a pre-high school level.

Literacy and Essential Skills are needed for work, learning and life. They are the foundation for learning all other skills to help people evolve with their jobs and adapt to workplace change.

Through extensive research, the Government of Canada, along with other national and international agencies, has identified and validated key literacy and Essential Skills. These skills are used in nearly every job and throughout daily life in different ways and at varying levels of complexity.

Learn these skills from within a culture and community-based perspective. The literacy program utilizes Native literature to teach English language skills development.
